MOMENTUM CREDIT UNION IN UNFAIR BARGAINING
Momentum Credit Union Employees have a proud history serving their community and its community and union members: Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 107 Hamilton, International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 90 Hamilton, UNIFOR 707 Oakville, UNIFOR 1285 Brampton, Sheet Metal Workers 537, Hamilton, Glassworkers Niagara.
The Credit Union CEO has been quite open about their attempts to seek significant concessions, erode job and pension security, and their contempt for unions. On the last day of negotiations, the Employer’s lawyer indicated they will seek the issuance of a no-board report from the Ministry if we do not concede to the Employers demands. This will trigger a 17-day countdown and the Employer can legally lockout their Employees. Since hiring this CEO, there are many workplace grievances including Harassment and Discrimination. These concessions include:
- DELETING pension increase for members who have achieved 20+ years of service, and • DELETING vacation entitlement for members at the 20 and 25 years of service; • ZERO wage increase for 3 years for all ranges;

NO more banking earned vacation and it can no longer be used for retirement bridge; REFUSING to pay out vacation owed and changing vacation period;
REMOVAL of Lenders from the union; - REMOVAL of Financial Advisors from the union;
- REDUCING number of sick days from 18 to 5-during the pandemic;
- EROSION of accumulated and sick day credits – to be used by December 2024;
⚫ PROOF OF ILLNESS by providing a doctor’s note to the Insurance company, - ELIMINATE Remembrance Day, the working day before Christmas and New Year’s
Day, and National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, as paid holidays; - PREMIUM pay removed for Member Service Coordinators;
⚫ LOWER wages for the newly created position of Range 2 Teller but SAME responsibility as present; - REDUCTION of bereavement days from 5 to 3;
ZERO float and lieu days.
Urge them to negotiate a FAIR COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
